Practical selection guidanceFrom bearing code to the right bearing
Dimensions are a starting point, but they are not the only requirement. For a reliable replacement, we check the design, seals, clearance, tolerances, load capacity, speed and operating conditions.
How to read a bearing code
The basic code usually describes the series and size, while suffixes specify the design. The rules are not identical for every manufacturer, so the full code should always be checked.
What to measure when the code is unreadable
- d — inner diameterMeasure the bore that fits onto the shaft.
- D — outer diameterMeasure the largest diameter of the outer ring.
- B or T — widthFor tapered and thrust bearings, check the total assembly width.
The same dimensions do not always make a suitable replacement
Recommending a replacement code requires comparing the complete design. We pay particular attention to:
We do not publish automatically matched equivalents as confirmed replacements. Send us the old and requested code and we will check the appropriate design.
Information for housings and insert bearings
Insert dimensions alone are not enough for a complete unit. The housing shape and mounting dimensions must also be checked.
- shaft diameter
- housing type: plummer, flanged, take-up or other
- mounting-hole centre distance
- mounting-hole diameter and shape
- overall height, width and length
- how the insert is secured to the shaft
- housing and seal materials
- a photograph of the old unit and its application
Operating conditions to specify
Agriculture and conveyors
Dust, shock loads, moisture, shaft misalignment and frequent washing.
Electric motors
Speed, noise, clearance, precision and lubrication method.
Food processing
Washing, corrosion, approved lubricants and materials in the contact area.
High temperatures
Operating and peak temperature, cycle duration, grease, clearance and cage material.
Heavy industry
Radial and axial loads, shock, vibration and duty cycle.
Water and chemicals
Fluid type, concentration, temperature and required material resistance.
How to get an accurate quotation quickly

Code, dimensions, quantity, required manufacturer, application and photograph.
Check the design
We check compatibility, availability, manufacturer, price and lead time.
Arrange delivery
Delivery by post or courier, or collection by prior arrangement.
Frequently asked customer questions
Does a code on the website mean that the bearing is in stock?
No. The database is provided to help find codes and technical data. Stock, manufacturer, price and lead time are confirmed for each enquiry.
Can another manufacturer replace the existing bearing?
Often, but only after comparing the full code, dimensions, clearance, seals, load capacity, speed and specific application requirements.
What is the difference between ZZ and 2RS?
ZZ/2Z usually denotes metal shields, while 2RS denotes rubber seals. Seals provide better protection from dirt and moisture, while shields generally allow lower friction.
Is C3 always better?
No. C3 means greater internal clearance and is used when required by temperature, fit or operating conditions. The wrong clearance can shorten bearing life.
What if I cannot read the code?
Measure d, D and B/T, photograph both sides, and tell us the machine and installation location. Send the details through the enquiry form.
